After teaching many students with emotional and learning difficulties — and few textbooks, even fewer at an appropriate reading level — Helen was inspired to work for the Canadian textbook industry. As part of her work, she studies curriculum documents, interviews teachers about their needs, advises and coaches authors, and revises material to meet the developmental needs of students as she works on print, electronic, and online materials across the curriculum.

The skills Helen Mason has learned can help make any material engaging and interesting. The trick is to show rather than tell.
